I went to an old sod farm at dusk today and had some luck. Several rows of sod had been stripped which allowed for a perfect dirt surface to detect! I found a couple buckshot and can slaw and then I got a nice solid signal and out pops a half reale. I think it's Carolus llll and 1789 but not 100% on that. It really made my hunt though. If anyone can find the mint mark I'd be thrilled.

And then my wife came home from helping my widowed mother-in-law pack for a move. She brought home some of my father-in-laws coin collection. Pretty cool silver day!

I'm sorry about the orientation of the reale. I thought I had it right before I posted.

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Wow, finding an early Spanish coin must be so exciting! :hello2:
Love the pic of the old farmhouse, it looks very peaceful there.
I see the trees have already dropped their leaves in NJ, not here quite yet, but we did get some snow yesterday.

Congratulations on your recovery and try to return to the sod farm.
I hope your next hunt greets you with big rewards
Thank you Bill,
I was out there again today and found nothing, but I looked up and saw the sunset, the moon, and 3 planets.

Thanks for looking Dave. This is an incredibly peaceful and beautiful place to detect. I couldn't believe my luck. I'll be back every day this week, God willing.

Fantastic find.

I'm in 'central'ish Jersey as well. If you ever want to get together - my buddy and I are always looking for new people to hunt with (and drink beer) :)
I like the sound of that. I would like to hunt with you. I will bring along my daughter and her friend who will be studying archaeology and ancient languages.

Love the pic my friend, I've just saved it to my computer... thanks for responding.
Best of luck to you while the weather holds.
