Old toy train - age please?

Hi everyone. I don't know much about old toys, so I'm hoping you'll share your knowledge of old toys with me please.
I did enough research to know that this train car is part of a "floor train", but I'm too ignorant to know if this is aluminum, tin, iron or some other metal. Sorry - please help me learn.
The underside says "T6" and "MADE" nothing else (no "made in USA" or similar, just the word MADE).
I'm sorry - I didn't include anything as a reference for scale; the item is about 5 1/2" long.

Can anyone help fill in the blanks for me?
