0311151148-00.webp006.webp Went out into the thawing and melting cornfield today and walked several hours before finding this, my oldest coin to date. A King George III 1/2 copper penny circa 1770-1775. The date is too warn to make out. It is exciting to think who may have dropped it whether a colonist or even a British soldier.

Really great find !!

Keep @ it and HH !! :hello2:

Very likely belonged to someone involved in the Revolutionary War! :treasurechest::thumbsup:

awesome find!, love them KGS!

That is Fantastic!

Congrats on a nice looking KG! What did you use to clean it, electrolusis ? HH!

Cleaned it a little with electrolysis and also boiled it several times in 3% hydrogen peroxide. Then applied a little mineral oil. Came out pretty good all considering.

As soon as I saw your pic, I was pretty sure electrolysis was used. I have an old head KG2 that I experimented on with it and got that same new copper appearance. Believe it or not, your copper has more detail than many found. Pretty good shape considering it's age. Nice find.

Very nice find, congratulations

Your coin appears to be a contemporary counterfeit. Could be a Machin's Mills piece. Can you post a picture of the reverse. If it has solid lines in the shield it's a Machin's piece. Most of the George III's found in this country are counterfeit.

004.webp Pretty worn but here it is. I learn something new all the time. Thanks for the info doninbrewster.

I couldn't guarantee it, but it certainly appears to be a Machin's Mills piece.

Wow very cool if it's a Machin's piece. Great info Don

Makes it a little bit more interesting of a coin with the possible Machin's Mills history behind it. Thanks again doninbrewster for your comments.
