Oldest coin yet (for me)

I found a 1917D wheatie and .87 in clad today. I also found 4 old blank shell casings (my guess). The ends where there would be a projectile was crimped like a star, but open like they were fired. ❓❓

Your empty casings were likely "rat shot". Rifle bullets loaded with very small shot pellets. Used for shooting small varmints at short range. Have fun out there!!
