On the edge of the Great Basin.
Detector(s) used
E-Trac, Gold Bug II, ATX, GPX-5K, Nox 800.
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Today I was fortunate enough to find my first Indian Cent. I spent 2-2 1/2 hours detecting through the most iron-infested site I have ever attempted (and stayed with...). I used a 6"x8" coil and slowly worked, often losing the threshold for minutes at a time. The work paid off, and I learned a bit about my E-Trac in the process. The Indian has some goop on it, but a warm water/dish soap bath has loosened some of it since the pictures. I thought I would share.

Nice IHP Hobbs. Nice work pulling that one out of the iron. Congrats!

Your coin cleaned up very well! Good job!

Doesnt look worn much. The fonts/head are still crisp

Nice coin. Always fun to hit the 1800s. Congrats!

Hobbs, that’s a very nice example of an Indian Cent you plucked for your first! Surely a ton of detail with very little wear. Congrats on your first... and mark my word, keep poking around those old, iron infested spots and you will fer sure be dropping more old Injuns in your keeper pouch. Ddf.

Thank you all! I can't wait to get back out there and find his brothers and sisters!

That is one for the shelf! Can’t believe how nice the face cleaned up! Sometimes it’s nice to stumble upon hard to search sites- the harder you have to work makes the item even more special. Also makes for a good learning experience.

You are right DDF. It seems like the sites (in my area) that are not iron infested have been worked pretty hard.

Thanks Harrison. This hunt will stay with me because it was challenging and it paid off!
