Went back out this afternoon. Found my first buckle in a week or so.
The hex item was under a heavily-rocked, old driveway. It measures 11/16” across the flats. Seems to be heavily plated/chromed iron. A magnet only gains purchase on one face. It is not threaded inside the hex walls. The center bore appears to have a thread. It is so thin there can’t be much threading. So far the only Items retrieved from under this driveway has been an IH penny, zinc jar lids and square nails.
I debated if it may be a base for a tire valve stem, but it’s not like the ones I’ve found so far. Ideas?
