One Person's Trash is Another Person's Junk!

I just wanted to share some of my current junk finds. I enjoy finding silver, gold, and relics; but, with the sweet comes the sour. This is some of the "junk" I have found over the last three weeks, not including all the pull tabs, bottle caps, and foil. There are fifty-eight Memorial pennies, six dimes, and five quarters. These are the kinds of items I go through to find good stuff. Are these the kinds and number of junk items other hunters find to get to the treasure? I have also found some silver coins that I will post later.

Re: One Person's Trash is Another Person's Junk!

Hello Dman,
Yes I believe that we all go through similar junk to find the good stuff. I am a newbie and have been doing some local beaches. It amazes me the amount of trash that people leave on the beach and burried in the sand. If I was a visitor from another planet and saw all of the trash we put in and on the ground I would say humans are pigs. I can't believe that people take sandwiches and discard the tin foil in the sand when there are plenty of trash barrels on the beach. The same can be said for the parks. As people have been saying on this site since I started reading it, "you have to dig the trash to find the good stuff". Unfortunately the rings and bracelets give off the same signal as foil, pull tabs, and screwcaps, so you dig them. I would say that my trash to good find ratio is about 6-1. At least we can say we are helping to save the environment.

Great post... it reminds me that I am not alone! LOL

I like the push button light switch cover... and those jar lids plague me to no end at my Indian War diggin sites...

Thanks for posting to average-guy stuff. ;)

The gun barrel is a toy. It says Texan on the side.

Seems like you have to go through a ton af trash for every good find. That is especially true when it comes to gold. The silver rings, dimes, quarters, and most pennies are a different story, but anything else you've got to face the trash. I am what you would call tone deaf, so tone ID doesn't do me much good except in the coin and silver range. I couldn't tell a gold ring from a pull tab if my life depended on it, so I use monotone for all targets and end up digging a lot of trash. Hang in there, there's gold in that trash!

That is the truth!!!!! Finding good items in the trash takes lots of digging. The gold will come.

I'm thinking (that hurts!) that I should start weighing my hand disinterred crape' and the coins and figure the ratio of trash to treasure!!! I'm guessing 10lbs trash to a 1/2 once of treasure!!

Thats some pretty substantial junque dman. I think we are all in the same boat when it comes to pullin trash...

Re: One Person's Trash is Another Person's Junk!

70% of my hunting was trash disposal as well, although none of my junque looked that good lol.

;D
WOW! Lost of great finds there! Hey, what are all those small round things in the middle of the picture? ::)

Re: One Person's Trash is Another Person's Junk!

That is about my usual Sat. or Sun. amount that I get everyweekend and I"m not kidding either.

Re: One Person's Trash is Another Person's Junk!

That's a lot of stuff for hunting less than a hour a day Dman. Some people would be pleased to find some of the clad. Not everybody is blessed to have good old places to MD.

Re: One Person's Trash is Another Person's Junk!

The round things in the middle are tops off jars mostly cold cream from the 30s and 40s. The small ones are tops to salt and pepper shakers.

Re: One Person's Trash is Another Person's Junk!

I will definitely agree, I always find more trash than treasure on any given outing. But, if I find one good item in a hunt, then no matter what trash I dug up, it was all worth the trip. And, I can say from doing playgrounds and woodchip areas, the amount of glass I pick up that is on top or chunks of metal chopped from lawnmowers that worked their way onto the kids play areas, it makes me feel good to know that is one less thing some kid will slice their foot open with next time they are there. It does amaze me though to look at all that junk that at one time was sitting on top of the ground that people walked past without disposing of properly.
