Hi all,

Recently I had the occasion to hunt an old farm house and did sort of a "hit or miss"/"check the place out" kind of hunt. I didn't get any old coins or buttons as hoped, but did find some "older" metal toys from the 1950s, and buckles that look similar but different sizes and were not found near each other. I know that aren't shoe buckles. I suspect they are belt or harness buckles for horses but I can't find any online. Can anyone shed some light on these buckle finds?

Congratulations on this finds. Couldn't see the attachments though. With toys from the fifties and your buddy getting silver it sounds like you have a promising site.

Very nice hunt...the Buckles are really cool looking..the Silver is always a plus and the toys look awesome too.Congrats on your outting.

Liking the two buckles, well done.

Nice silver, buckles and love the toy cars.

Thanks everyone, and thanks to vpnavy for all the reference link. I was hoping to find an exact match but apparently there are many versions of similar buckles. These are quite substantial in weight leading me to believe they were for horses.

They are horse harness buckles.

Congratualtions on the relics and silver! :occasion14:

The toys are very cool! :icon_thumright:

Underwonder, great bunch of finds.... I don't know anything about buckles, I just save them all, hoping for someone to look at them some day.. lol Love the toys, the kind of stuff I played with as a kin, being born in 1951....

Love the BIG brass horse harness buckles. Gotta' be at least late 1800's I'd reckon? Midget Toys are really nice Tootsie Toy knock offs. Manufactured in Rockford, Illinois about 45 minutes drive north of me. Nice scouting finds. Probably some more keeper coins among them.:icon_thumright:

Thanks...That would be my guess on date also. The toy finds were fun and my first. Guess I will be on the lookout for Tootsie Toys one day. I may get back there yet someday. Anything over half an hour is a day trip in RI [emoji6].

Thanks for confirming, CRUSADER. Any idea as to the time period?
I can't be 100% sure on the date unlike the function which I am sure about, however, if it follows similar examples circa 1850-1900.

Thank you! That makes perfect sense to
me given it's location!
