Jgas you are at the top of your game. I am having peculiar, if not awkward, feelings for that little dark brown beer. Nice jug and unusual seltzer too.

Once again a nice pit dig looks like everthing from the 1880 90. I like the jug evertime i find one either broken or plain . Keep the good work you will hit a pontil pit one soon!!!

Thanks for the replies all! I hope to snag a pontil pit as we get closer to the center of town. The season has just begun, LOL.......jgas

Did you dig all 11 of those pits in a single day?!?? If so......OMG!!!

Of course I'm assuming that you also filled them and made everything look pretty again.......

Awesome, simply awesome! :notworthy:

Hey Sode, it took about 3 different trips to get the entire 11 pits done. We always cut the plugs as nice as any landscaper could. With the holes being about 4x4 or so you always leave a mark. But I have found that when it rains and it gets mowed a couple times, you would never know we were there! Gotta keep the homeowners happy ya know, or I would screw a lot of treasure hunters' days with denials of future digs. Thanks for the reply buddy and hopefully we will be out digging again soon. jgas

Jgas, how do you deal with the sod?, do you dig it out in chunks or what the heck? Do you peel it and roll it up like a carpet :dontknow: Totally clueless on this please show pics if you can.

Hey Gleaner, we dig the sod out in chunks as big as we feel we can lift. We dig as much soil as we can underneath as well. Try to get the roots and all. The more dirt still attached the better the grass recovery. We usually average about 9 large chunks of sod per hole which as you can see is about 4x4 or a bit bigger. You would be surprised at how well it recovers with some rain and a lawnmower a couple times. Hope that helps out. Take care Buddy, jgas
