We ran a small herd of cattle on a piece of property I mentioned in another post, "Oregon finds." There was a half million feet of timber on the back end, which we decided to log, with most of it being down in a deep canyon without a road. So in order to get the trucks into the trees, we had to have a D-8 cut an access road. About halfway down the hill, he dug this up.

It's a very dense and heavy rock, and in the road cut there weren't any other rocks like it. There were also no other artifacts either, just this loan out of place rock. It's highly polished in the middle, and each end is rough.

At first I thought perhaps the stone might have been out of a rawhide sap or club, but I don't know for sure. Anyhow, I picked it up and kept it. After reading posts in this forum, I'm thinking it might be a hard stone they used to shape other stones into bowls, mortars and pestles
What ever it is, it's interesting enough that I've kept it. The below photo shows the damage the tractor did when it dug it up.
