My club and another club joined forces today and hit a park. A member of one club seeded the area, he is downsizing his collection, and thought it better to let his friends and associates find the stuff, versus just leaving it sit around. We were in the deep, dark woods, with skeeters, tics (I'm sure), and broken glass and trash. There was a lot of trash in the area, some of going back pre 1960. Heck, that's over half a century ago.

Got minies, numerous types, a silver spoon with the following backmark "G and 925_____1000". The 925 is over the line and 1000 underneath. Anybody know that backmark, please let me know. Looks 1st half 19th century. I'm having a silversmith straighten it.

Boy Scout statue of liberty bolo, three silvers inc. a war nickel, a few buffs, and change. The knife has "W. Viele and Co" and something else on the thing. That wasn't put there recently. Big brass item is a CW scabbard throat with the leather still inside. The little brass ring was a Nabisco promo item from 1950, it says "Straight Arrow" and has the bust of an American Indian on it. It can be fixed by annealing. It was down 6" so was a native find. Brass gear from a watch, I suppose. RFD lock (old postal service kind) was found elsewhere but wanted its picture taken.

Was a lot of fun. Lots of poison ivy there too. Now IMG_0258.webpIMG_0259.webpIMG_0260.webpIMG_0261.webpIMG_0262.webpI have the heebie-jeebies thinking about tics.

That is a lot of cool relics! :occasion14:

2/3 were put there for us, the rest were wild ones!

That BSA Slide is really cool; I have only seen the ones with the Fleur inside of a square.

Any idea what year that is from?

From what I can tell 1950's or 60's. There are a lot of the slides around.

Update. If you look at the pictures carefully, on the right hand top of the lock is a blackened very bent up spoon. Yup, that's what it is. It is American made, according to the stamp and made in Boston 1810-1820. I took it to one of the best known jewelers in Maryland who send silverware out for restoration. Got it back today and here is the picture. Yes, it is the same piece, and yes it cost a lot to restore, but look at how it turned out! IMG_0361.webp

Nice to have the seeded hunt and still find other things along with it. The spoon turned out really great! Congrats!:icon_thumright:

It will be about 4 weeks until I get the one my mom found 40 years ago back from the silversmith.
