I discovered this Youtube video on the Outlaw. I'm not sure on what this guy has his settings on, especially the sensitivity, but it seems somewhat disappointing on rings. You have to turn the discrimination almost all the way down to iron to pick up the rings, if that is so, then you'll have to dig more junk to find them. I had a Cibola and had the same problem. The rings I had were discriminated out at just a tad above iron, so I got rid of it. Maybe I had a bad machine. Now the Vaquero I have the rings will discriminate out at way above iron and will disappear at just past the tab settings, which it should. So what are your thoughts on the video?

Happens with a lot of detectors concerning White Gold items due to its properties or makeup compared to yellow gold. If your looking for Gold items you have to hunt with your disk lower and you want it down below foil for a lot of white Gold items. Gold will fall all the way from iron through the foil range all the way up in the copper range and higher depending on the size and properties of the Gold item.

Also the ground balance of the detector is critical and the makeup off the dirt plays into things as well. In the video he does not show how the detectors balanced and we do not know the make up of the sand also the target has not been in the ground for a while this also can change the detectability of the item. Detecting in the house like he was can affect how the detectors works believe it or not. This can happen due to electrical things running in the house affecting the VLF frequency.

Test are fun and give us a good idea of things but there not always real world. In the field real world hunting tells the truth.

Not surprising considering all the varied opinions regarding the QC of the Outlaw. Almost seems to be hit and miss with those. What is really funny is the control box mounted on the shaft upside down! Lol!!!

That was hurting my arm just watching it! Lol

That's Gunnar's video, he hangs out in the Finds Forum, and is very helpful member and nice guy. I am going to guess he took the forearm rest off to make it easier to shoot the video and operate the Outlaw.

My outlaw hit on my wife's very small/thin engagement band. With the disc. Set just before the "F" in foil. This is the smallest ring we had in the house. Her actual wedding ring and other gold rings were in the foil range or above.

These were all 14/18k (sorry no white gold to test)
Gold is is the foil range! A much higher frequency 18 Kilohertzs will spread the range out more but still need to dig foil to get all the rings in the ground.

True, smaller gold rings will be in the foil range. The larger gold rings will discriminate out at pulltab. The Cibola I had, all the gold rings disappeared below foil which meant it wasn't properly calibrated. It appeared to be the same in the video.

Adjust your disk nob so that it drops nickels at the nickle mark and all will be good, sometimes they get the disk nob off one way or the other a little at the factory . ( Just loosen the little allen set screw on the nob and re-set and lightly tighten it making small adjustments to the nob until a nickle drops out at the nickle mark during an air test. Then tighten the set screw on the nob and your good to go now targets will be where there supose to be based on modern coins & the type of aluminum tab they used at the factory for calibration. Things will still fall above and below the disk settings based on the type of tabs (to many to list) and target composition and size ground conditions and other factors.

My Outlaw was dropping nickels between tabs and nickle. (have had 2 out of the 5 Tesoros I have owned need the nob re-set correct, easy fix) I adjusted the nob as stated above and it is now on the mark with modern coins, foil and general common tabs. Also I dont have the gold ring issues as mentioned in the threads above. White gold is a little more difficult than regular gold and requires a lower disk setting on most detectors anyway.

(The detectors are set with modern coins and the most common tabs at the factory for the disks diel indicator marks and where targets drop out so if the nob is off one way or the other the settings will be off according to the indicator on the nob verses the marks or refrences on the panel behind the nob)

Why is the control box mounted up side down? :laughing7: Also, the floor tile causes signals to drift.. as most of us know..

Yea there are floor joist with nails in them and the electrical interference has a huge affect on a detector,i can't turn on my t2 or goldbug and even my compadre in the house without chatter...In the house is not a valid test for any detector except a stud finder..lol
