Hey everyone, It's been awhile since I got out detecting. I had the day off today and the temp was hovering around freezing to start out. I decided to hit a spot that I researched. After securing permission from the landowner I started swinging. The owner thought I was nuts for detecting in the cold but she got a good chuckle anyhow. 5 minutes into the hunt i got the infamous Quarter copper reading. 2 inches underground and the green disk presents itself. Not in the greatest shape(typically for Pa. fertilized farmfields) but you can ID it as a Matronhead Largecent. 3 hours more of detecting and a large caliber musketball is what else I found. Chris

Congrats on the large copper. I'm too warm blooded to be detecting in this weather. You winter hunters are hard core. I hope you're able to get a date off of it.

Congrat's on the large cent! That's awesome!

That's one I've got on my "wish list"!

Two GREAT finds, Chris! 8)

Congrats! Nana

Awesome job Chris. Your research paid off. Congrats to you!

Nice finds Chris. Good research on the site. At least you know the coin is from 1816-1839 :) :)

I was out last weekend with Mona Lisa and the temp was around 34. A few finds like yours tends to keep you warm. ::)

Hunting with Mona Lisa should have been enough to keep you warm ;D ;D ;D

Nice find and I can make out the Matron head on it. Large coppers are great!

Beautiful old coin there Chris. Regardless of their condition it's always exciting to pull up such a substantial pc of metal. Coins really used to represent value. I wonder what the value of that coin is in copper alone on today's market. Just thinking that the US Govt is considering going back to steel cents because of the cost of zinc gets me upset.
Aren't you Kirk and Kyle's uncle or something (if I remember back correctly to the Doyboy days)
Do you still hunt with them? I am totally surprised your thread hasn't been innundated with BDD/"coppa"/"dude"-type comments.

Sorry wv drummer my nephew is right . I never sell my coins but I do appreciate your offer.
Chris

Zoyboy your avatar is similar to a picture I took at RB Winter state park a few 4th of Julys ago. UNCANNY
