Painting signature help?

I normally stay away from stuff I don't know about, or particularly like. The detail on this painting caught my attention though. The canvas is 24" x 20" and the paint is chipped or peeled around the edges from previous framing. The signature looks like JL Michelet to me, but I can't find anything listed.

Sorry the pics are kind of crappy, my dlsr crapped out. The painting was cheap enough, I paid $6 for it.

An American Painter... J.C. Michelet. Seems like a nice price to pay, even for a couple turkeys! Values for said artist are all over the place, so it's best to do some research if you plan to re-sell it! Nice Job

To each their own. Not a subject I care much about, but I think it shows talent. It's a lot easier to put a bunch of smudges on canvas and call it impressionist than it is to go for some detailed realism. JMO

Bernitup had it right, J.C. Michelet is from Mobile, AL. Not too far from me.
