I hunted an old cellar hole today and my first two targets were these buckles. They were about 5 feet apart. The spoon was about 5 feet from the buckles. Other than a couple horse shoes and shell casings not much else but iron junk. Any idea on an age for the buckles? They appear to have a trace of shiny gold colored plating left on them in places. The penny is for size reference.

Thanks guys. I figured somebody would know what they were. I wasn't sure what they came off of. The site I found on a map from 1860. Not sure how long it had been there before that, but that goes along with your estimate of mid 1800's. I was hoping to get a coin out of there from that period. I'll be back but it is hard hunting. It's on the edge of a field that has been recently bush wacked and has stubble about 8" tall. Most of the time I was lucky if I could get my coil within 4" of the ground. Might be better next spring after the snow melts.
