panning in dirty water..

Is it ok to pan in dirty water? for example using large basin (in low water area) and panning dry dirt in that water repetitively despite the muck and debree? Will it effect your end concentrates? Oh and does any one use the grizzly gold pan, the one with stopper in bottom? Does it work?

As long as the water doesn't get to thick it will work for quite a while. A drop off detergent will help break surface tension an let fine gold drop down.
