Panning Ten Mile Creek near Helena-Question.

Hello everyone, this is my first post on Treasurenet!

I have a quick question for you Montana folks. I will be in Helena for work next week and should have some time to explore a bit. Does anyone know of any spots that are legal to prospect within a short drive of Helena? I’ve heard there is panning in Ten Mile Creek just west of town. Is the panning area obvious (like a city park,) or are there just pull offs on the side of the road? I guess I’m not sure what to expect and only want to rent a car if I’m confident I can find a legal area to pan. Does anyone have any other suggestions in or around Helena?

Also, I plan on bringing a small sluice with me. Does anyone know if sluices are legal in Ten Mile?
