I found this in a local park. I did a little research apparently its from a branch of the American legion 40/8. Shows a horse on railroad with military figures with it I am unable to decipher the back to small to read, but the front says 40 hommes 8 chevaux.
This auction is for a WWI medal with ribbon and pin. The ribbon has separated from the pin but the medal itself is in very good condition. Pat. Apd. For is stamped on the back.
The medal depicts a soldier looking at a box car that is carrying another soldier and a horse. The boxcar is marked 40 Hommes, 8 Chevaux which means 40 men or 8 horses.
These small, cramped French box cars were the familiar mode of transportation to all who traveled from the coast to the trenches during the war.
