Hi all, I found this artifact at a site where a dwelling built about 1810 once stood. Found all kinds of coins, pottery sherds, buttons, etc. dating between the late 1700s to mid-1800s nearby. Do you think it is part of a blade from either a knife or straight razor?

Appears to be from some type of folding cutlery. I’d recommend a vinegar bath to get some rust off. A straight razor would be much thinner than a knife blade.

Blackfoot58, thank for the ID and cleaning tip. Hadn't consider folding cutlery as due to the bow. That said, I'll definitely go back and look again. The "blade" is about 3/32" thick while the top is about 5/16"

I definitely vote for a crusty pocket knife. Looks like you can see some of the wood from the handle poking through

grasshopper, thanks! I agree about the wood. Might even be bone, as I found a bone-handled fork on the property. Either way, it was part of a handle. Will mark this SOLVED!

Thanks Gare! I'm heading to the Ohio History Connection later this week and plan on taking this and a few other finds to show some curators there. While I'm confident that this is indeed part of a knife (i.e. SOLVED), the rest are still unidentified. It usually helps when more history-minded people look at artifacts, especially when they can hold it in their hands.
