Hmmmm....must be either much more of a puzzle than I thought. Or....it's just too simple and they're just being kind. :dontknow: So's not to embarrass me. ;)

Are those cent and dollar signs at the end of the last picture?

I spent a couple hours looking up old scales, several similar pieces but nothing close to the marking you have. I haven't given up but this is defiantly an unusual piece. If it was a bottle, bullet, rock or coin you would have probable got several responses but right now I think all anyone would have would be a SWAG. I'll let you know if I find anything. Still a great find and thank for posting. I love a good mystery.

Yeah, they are. I initially thought it was C.S. lol!
But, no, they're a cent symbol and a dollar sign. :dontknow:

I believe what you have are parts to a Pendulum Scale. Give pendulum scales a google and look at images. Now to find who made it.

I do appreciate the effort! I know what you're going thru. I went thru a few hours myself before asking. Lol.

I just can't quite figure the shape nor the characters on the ends. :dontknow:

I found a company that sells and collects antique scales. Can you send me or post what characters are on the "scale" its hard to read them from the pictures. I'm (if you don't mind) going to send them an email with a description and see what the knew or could find out. I don't mind at all spending time researching items. To me its a fascinating game. Can I find it (I win) if I cant (it wins) plus it gives me a ton of researched history.

I’m brainstorming how it could be used with numbers that go 1,2,3,...up to 20, and then go by tens up to 90? I don’t think it could be used on a scale, since the units are inconsistent.

That's why I'm a bit confused. The very 1st character on the left I can't quite figure. Maker's Mark? Then the "CM" then 90 down to 20 by tens and by ones down to 1. Then a cent mark and dollar sign.

Also, I noticed that the letters appear to have been painted red at one time. The back is just blank.

Neat puzzle, eh? ;)

It's a scale for women they start gaining a pound at at time and as they get older they gain 10x as much LOL JK I don't want to be killed by the T'Net ladies.:laughing7:

I'm going to go with cash register part, or maybe an early adding machine.
Might also be an index (guide) to a stencil punching machine?

Any chance the letters (left end) are Roman Numerals?
On the right end, I read it as a Cent sign, and a Dollar sign.

Welp, I'm thinking pendulum type scale too. Can't figure the dollar sign or cents sign on a scale. Unless they were just for decoration, as they appear to have been colored red.

The "C" & "M" could conceivably be Roman numerals. But, again, for decoration? :icon_scratch:

The first symbol on the left? Maker's Mark? Its a strange looking symbol. Reminds me of the infinity symbol.

Anyhoo, thanks for all the help folks! I'll leave it unsolved for a while yet. But, I'll close it out in a few.

There are more important puzzles to be solved! 😉

Maybe part of a machine for printing price signs.
