A fantastic classic C Butterfly bannerstone found by the late Bob Patrick of Columbus Indiana.
The material is orange and white ferruginous quartzite. It measures approximately 4 3/8 inches in length and approximately 1 3/16 inches across. It is approximately 7/8th of an inch width at the hole, which was cane drilled.
An abundance of heavy patina can be seen in some small crevices where heavy weathering has occurred. This gives the artifact a false look of being broken when photographed.
Bob worked at the Columbus Indiana Cummins plant third shift and when he got off from work he and his wife, Jean Patrick, would often go artifact hunting during the day.
This bannerstone was found by Bob in southern Indiana around 1977 according to his widow (July 5th 2010). Bob worked at Cummins until the early 1990's when he retired due to poor health. He and his wife then traveled the United States hunting relics. Bob passed away about 1998. I visited his widow at their house(July 5th 2010). His widow told me the story of finding it but could not remember the exact location and date due to too many years passing and she was elderly.
Pictures just does not capture it well.
