Here is another one of my examples of experimental archaeology. I found the rock along the river. It has a dark patina and is pretty hard stuff. I tried using a flint pecking tool but it was too hard, so I used a very hard stone I found on a beach in Maine. The pecking stone is a nice two toned green color of gem quality. I still need to get it ID'd.
The pecking took a number of hours to do, but I find it amazing how well it works. My next step is to grind smooth the pecked area and attach it to a handle.
Pic 1.....Shows the stone just after I started pecking.
