So I had recently asked at my pickup bank if they had any Large Dollars. Had nothing. So today I had to go to the bank, was planning on just getting a couple boxes of pennies(well ordering) Teller tells me a guy just brought in a bunch of Eisenhower dollars, all rolled. I only had $50 to deal with so could only get 2 rolls(There was $630 total, so hopefully nobody else asks for them. She actually told the guy that they would be gone in no time. So I did open one roll in the car, nothing good(are the key years 1964 and earlier just like other coins?, maybe somebodies dump? But that is a large amount to me of just Ikes.

Wish I had had some more $ to pick up more as my bank isn't close to my house.

Also another question, teller asked me when I mentioned wanting penny boxes. She asked if I wanted them rolled or bagged, apparently another branch has a coin counter and they have bags. I figure that it would be alot of people dumping coin jars or maybe even someone dumping there stuff.
What is more worth it to have boxes ordered or pick up some bags off their coin machine? I don't want to get shorted either because bags seem like that would happen with them.

The closest i have even gotten to non presidential dollars are Susan Bs. I would jump on those like mad.

So I had gotten $40 worth. Ended up with 19 from 1971-1974 and some 1976. Also got 13 Bi Centennial 1176-1976 ones. Then the remaining 8 were from 1978. So the first bunch if I have the right info are 40%'ers and the 78s are useless. One of them even has a drill mark from whoever brought them in, you can see the copper in it.

Am I going to have any luck trying to turn these into anything more than face? I've seen 40% can go for like $9.75 a piece.

You won't find any pre-1971 Ikes - 1971 was the first year. Some 40% silver ones were minted '71-'76, but only NIFC with an 'S' mint mark. If you don't have the 'S' mint mark, it is not Ag. If it does have the 'S' mint mark, it might be Ag.

If you hand sort the cents, you might prefer rolls. If you machine sort the cents, you definitely want bags.

ah none of these have the S mintmark, got 6 with D from 71-76, a few 78s with Ds but those don't matter, but the rest had none.

So much for thinking I had something good, wonder why this guy had one that had a spot drilled into. I guess it could be worth looking thru the rest of them. There is $590 more at my bank.

ahh I wish some of the banks I go to had Ikes...been looking for some for awhile with no luck :-\

this was a definite shock, I had asked recently and they had nothing. Then I go in today and she was like I just thought of you. To hear that there was that much was crazy. I guess I'll do myself the favor and search as much of them as I can. Never know if maybe my 2 rolls were bad or if this guy pulled the silver and turned in the rest.
