1943-D Copper Cent, one of two or three.

In 1943 the US Mint produced Cents from steel and coated them with zinc, this was in effort to save copper for the War. A few error coins got produced on copper planchets with the Denver issue being the rarest of the rare for that year.

worked for me, article says bronze, is it bronze or copper?

Actually, yes bronze is the more appropriate and accurate term.

However, being comprised of 95% copper they are commonly referred to simply as "copper". Without the added tin and zinc the copper would wear much quicker.

DigginThePast Thank you for the info!!

I've got one here in my hand that I found in my collection...unfortunately it sticks to a magnet. What a cruel cruel joke to play on an old man. ??? :dontknow: :icon_scratch:
