I have a 9.5" coil on my DFX for beach work and it performs very well wet and dry, down to 10-11" on coins. What kind of performance can i expect out of this coil in the wet sand and general dry beach sand? I ask because this coil is a DD type coil and discrimination tends to be less robust than the concentrics. The 9.5 coil and the signalgraph can almost always tell me when i have a bottle-cap in the sand and i don't want to degrade this ability significantly, i hate digging bottle-caps:BangHead::tongue3:. I would like some more depth and i hear this coil can surpass the 9.5", is this the case from your experience?

Not sure if Spero frequents this board, but he is the guy from DE that helped me out with my DFX. He uses the 10x12 exclusively. If I was not burred in this DFX I would by one. The 10x12 feels lighter than my 950 with cover and better balance. The one drawback I did note, but this is true with all butterfly style coils, it does not slide across the sand as easy as the enclosed 950.
Do you hunt in mixed mode on the beach. I have heard very few people mention it but it really is nice when there are few targets.. Sorry can not speak on the depth but it should be as deep if not deeper and have better separation. you also get a wider blade of field which is deeper than the widest part of the 950.. so better coverage. Hope you get a definitive answer to the actual question.

In my experience, you will dig more bottlecaps with the SEF vs the concentric coil but you will also gain depth over the 950. I use the 6X8 SEF in most moderate to heavy trashy areas until I come across one with lots of bottlecaps then the 5.3 concentric coil goes on and the problem is solved. Having a DFX in the past, I am pretty sure they will work the same way. In open to light trash areas, the MXT comes out with the 10X12 SEF coil and it gets great depth.

Thanks for your input Doug, im really eager to try this coil. If my DFX can manage a solid 12" in wet with a 10x12" SEF ill be very happy, right now im at 9-10". Hope your DFX finally comes back properly fixed Doug.
