I found a "dateless" (2005) nickel, it looks to just not been minted correctly on the date part, and not wear because the rim is still crisp, and the other details on the coin are great looking. is this an error or PMD, and if so is it worth anything to get excited about?

I found a nic just like that a few weeks ago and I just assumed it was pm wear of some sort. :icon_scratch:

perhaps its an error then? is there a such thing as a weak die strike on that area?

It looks like a grease filled die strike. I would hold on to it as a novelty, but in the current condition, I don't see a premium to be realized.

Yep, I'd say it was a grease filled die, got a similar nickel, a 2011 with half the last 1 missing because of one. They aren't worth a huge premium but I'd hang on to it as a curiosity.
