Hi I was just wondering how I would get permission to go detect in a ghost town

Hit the county court house or whoever holds that information.

In Montana it's all on-line. I can get names of owners, who pays the taxes... everything right on my PC. Many if not most ghost towns are on private property and you'll need permission.

Are you willing to share which town or where? Maybe someone her can get that information for you and get you started on who to contact.

Contact the county assessor for the property owner(s). If not, ask a neighbor living close by. They might be the owners or will know who owns the property.

You could also try the local historical society, but I'd try the property appraiser/tax accessor's office first.
