I keep on swingin, but lately it’s been a lot of clad and not much interesting.
Last Thursday, 102 coins with a face value of $2.18.
Saturday, 48 coins with a face value of $3.74, a toy car and an old bullet.
Sunday, 187 coins with a face value of $4.82, some junky bling and a key.
Monday, 90 coins with a face value of $5.97, 28 tent pegs, sinkers and slides (short hunt got rained out).
Lots of swingin and diggin with piles of junk and lots of clad (really high penny counts most days), but no real goodies until today. I was back on campus, no students or teacher so I was up among the buildings working the grass along the sidewalks. I was gridding a section and digging all mid and high tones. Finding some tabs, lots of scrap aluminum from the soffit and facia coverings and pennies everywhere (lots of eaten up zincs). I got a weak, tight, high tone on the CZ21, cut the plug and about 7 inches down out pops this dime sized piece of metal. It had that semi tarnished silver look and sure enough when I gave the edge a gentle wipe it was shiny. I got out the glass and had a look and between the dirt spots I could see I had a seated dime, my first one in 15 months. Whaa Hoo!! That made my day.
I finished up with 128 coins with a face value of $5.30 (95 pennies lol), a replica of a replica coin (hit by the lawn mower), a 1981 Canadian dime, the seated dime, and an International Duck Donor button.
The seated has an old scratch and has some pits in it so she is not in great shape, but she is a beautiful and welcome sight to me.
The replica is of a 1733 1 tallero Croatian coin originally made in silver. I found a similar one on line that was a replica produced in silver in 1971. This one is not exactly the same and is made of aluminum. It had a rather bad run in with the lawn mower and was holed so it could be worn as a pendant. It’s not in great shape, but it is a rather unusual find.
Going out again tomorrow to see what the scout camp has to offer. Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things.
