I'm posting for a friend of mine who's had this object for the last 30 years or so. He recalls his father finding it in one of the western or south western states. It definitely has a stony field to it, but I was thinking, possibly petrified wood due to, what appears to be, grains. Thoughts?

I thought I saw something that looked like that when MooSho twerked with Miley Cyrus a few years back.
