Bought it for $5 at a local auction. Trying to find some info on it. Pretty sure it is Russian or Polish. It depicts men on foot and on horseback along with dogs apparently chasing game. It does not smell like copper or brass so my best guess is pewter.

The double headed eagle is the crest for Austria adopted after the fall of the Holy Roman Empire.

True, but the fact it’s a beer stein, hunter theme, definitely don’t discount the German/Austrians.

the Austrians , the Polish and the Russians all 3 used dual headed eagles.. the mug to me looks to be a steel/ iron based mug..with pewter overlay...I say this due to the rust that I see ...looks to be a hunting scene beer mug (stein) to me

It is non magnetic so I think it is pure pewter, the discoloration is not rust. It weighs like 3 1/2 pounds.
