Most of us receive phone calls requesting help in finding rings and survey stakes. One of my friends called, and alerted me that I would be receiving a call to help try and find some pitching horseshoes. It seems this man pictured, received a horseshoe set for his Highschool graduation in 1981. They had set it up at his party to play. While the beer was flowing freely, it seems no one put it away that night, and early the next morning his dad was on the tractor to cut the 5 acre yard. He spotted the two stakes and just assumed the "shoes" were picked up as he did not see them. You know the rest of the story, the grass was cut and covered the shoes, and they started their decent into mother earth for the next 40 years. When I arrived at the farmstead, I could see the home was old. I asked the owner, who grew up there, and still owns the place how old it was and he said it was built in 1880. I struck a deal to hunt the place, and began looking for the 3 lost horseshoes. He showed me (best as he could recall) where they were playing, and within 30 minutes, I had found all 3 of them. He is only pictured with 2, as he had to leave for an appointment. The other one was left on his back porch. Now for my fun - After only an hour of hunting, I was able to find this LC that was made into a Love Token, with a Counterstamp of 3 C's on the other side. I tried to light it up the best I could for the photo. I also pulled this Sterling ring ( # 3 in the last month ) with an Opal stone, and this Pepsi token that says "Hidden Cove" on the reverse. I'm glad I could help this man out, as he has given me cart blanche to search anywhere on his property, and I will be back there.
