Hey all,

Took a break from hunting in the city to try my luck in the woods. I found this interesting piece an inch down. Can anyone tell me more about it? You can pull the slider on the back side of it and there is a spring-loaded chamber. These woods modern history only goes back to the late 40s but there could easily have been people traveling through/hunting there before.

Thank you!

It's the bolt from a single shot .22 rifle. The knob on the back would be pulled out to cock it, after a round was loaded. Different companies have been making these for over a hundred years.

It is a bolt from a single shot rifle, but I not sure it's from a .22? Could you give us a pic of the end on the right hand side with a size ref ?

Yep, bolt from a rifle, most likely a cheaper .22LR from the looks of the handle as it's hollow on the bottom. Still though, get it cleaned up and post it on a few gun forums and you could quite possibly sell it for some cash as some of the parts for older guns are hard to get. rimfirecentral.com would be my suggestion on where to ask for info and where to sell it. It's legal to ship and sell as it is not the part that has a serial number and is considered the actual firearm.

Agreed.... we need to see the bolt face to be sure.... but with the single locking lug I think .22 is likely.....3 possible makers come to mind looking at it.....Savage, Marlin or Stevens....

The length and locking lug are what's standing out.

I've seen some long throw .22's... I had an old .22 magnum no name hardware store rifle with a long bolt... I could well be wrong though, hopefully we get a pic of the bolt face to see what it looks like

I've never seen a bolt with innards like that though. It reminds me more of a air rifle part. The firing pin hole is kind of big, there's no extractor.
