Ok, I do a lot of digging. Doc says to keep moving so I keep moving!
I went out this afternoon to find a tree a friend of mine told me about. A monstrous double oak. He called it a "Pre-Settlement" tree, meaning that it was here before the pioneers came. It actually stood beside the original route of the Wilderness Road here in Kentucky. This section of the road was used from 1775 to the early 1800's before it was changed. Thousands of early settlers went by this tree. There is also a spring close by. My thoughts were that maybe they stopped to rest under this tree and left something behind. This assumption was correct! I found a stash of lead ingots (pancakes) at the base of the tree. They weigh a little over 1/2 lb. apiece. They might not be silver or gold, but they are an interesting piece of history! Thought I'd share it with everyone.
