Ok I am up by the St. Lawrence river in Clayton, NY. There was a buried treasure in the Dexter area. my question is if you were a pirate and you came into a cove would you try to go upstream as far as possible or would you just go ashore and bury it. I am banking that the pirate would travel into the cove and heading up stream into a creek or something of that nature. What do you think

Why do you think a "treasure" was buried there?

That area is like 10,000 islands in Florida... thousands of islands... take your pick....look for one that stand out... biggest tallest trees etc,. heh

I have read that one was buried by a big oak tree, but probably gone now. that is why I am thinking with all the houses around that someone would have dug it up. going up the creek this summer to take a better look.

Wouldn't they bury it kinda deep?
Also, consider the depths of the channels of the times. if the river was shallow I would stay within the distance the tide could pull a small boat inland.....rowing with all that treasure would be lame, I would use the tide to do all the work if possible.
