Plantation house delivers it's first goods! CW item?

Some of you may remember that I recently got permission to MD at an old plantation house and land by my work.
Even though it is tick & snake season, I couldn't resist. I'm dying to find another old coin! ;D I hit it for about 45 minutes, and found these few items. These finds lead me to believe there will be much more to dig up.
My finds were:
1) A "US" piece, that I'm assuming is CW related? Can someone tell me what this piece is?
When I first dug it up, I thought it said "06" on it. :D
2) A piece of an old button with no back mark.
3) An ornate metal piece that I'm guessing may have been a furniture decoration piece perhaps?
Any ideas on this one?
A short hunt, but in the right direction. I also located where the old privy is for a future dig.
Thanks for looking,
MM

Hey MM, nice start and great home to search!
I think the US is part of a cavalry horse bridle or saddle.
Just a guess..
Cool finds, keep diggin & no snakes...

Keep safe...

Nice find. You got a nice rosette there, but never saw them with a "button" looking loop on the back. The ones I have seen had a long bar across the back.

Oops, should have looked closer. The button loop is on the button :) What kind of attaching hardware is on the back of the rosette ?

Gribnitz,
Nothing on the backside. Is a rosette a decoration on something?
Thanks,
MM

Yes, they used them to fancy up the horses.

Nice finds

Re: Plantation house delivers it's first goods! CW item?

Yes, the US item is a rosette. It was a decorative item on each side of the horse's bridle. I found one just like yours about 6 months ago in Georgia. Mine was a tin back like yours and the back had rotted away. Most of the older ones had a lead back like the uniform plates / buckles. I had gotten several different opinions on the age from Civil War era to WWII. Still a nice find. I keep mine with my Civil War items.

Great find, The button like object is post CW most likely WW1 or WW2. Great find though.

I`ve been wanting to knock on that door for the last 4 years, after the local paper said it was the oldest house still standing on 401.

GLAD YOU GOT THE OK.
Let me know if you need some help:)

This is a different house. I know the one you are talking about off of 401. That property has been sold, and it will eventually be bulldozed. You better get over there soon.
Good luck,

Nice start on the Plantation MM. Might have another "farm". Might even be better....

Ticks - use "Off". You can buy it at local drug stores.

Snakes - use "Snake oil". ;D :D Oh, never mind. It hasn't been invented yet. ;D

In all seriousness - can't you move slowly and "scare" them away if they are in the area?

Thanks Bob.
I'm thinking about breaking out a weed whacker to take care of the snakes. ;D
Looking forward to finding more relics and coins.
I'll keep ya posted.
