Hello I am new to metal detecting. Today in my yard I found this buckle. Can anyone tell me what this buckle went to and approximately how old it might be? Thank you.

1st - I noticed this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard Jlen82! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forum: Select Your Area.... and selecting location information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country). You might also consider adding your state (or country) to your displayed profile (SETTINGS -> EDIT PROFILE) - members may have more success helping you (your location may help, etc.)...

2nd - Until a member pipes in - I pulled these from other TN threads...

Welcome Aboard from another resident of the great state of PA! Take a look at Forum:Pennsylvania for information (i.e., clubs, etc.) directly related to PA.

I have a small stream in my backyard, the buckle was in the stream about 8 inches down. My house was built in the 70s but this was farm land prior. The farm house is a few houses down the block from me and was built in the year 1900. I believe there was an old farm house before that one but still doing research on that.

I would guess it's off some kind of horse tack...date can be hard to figure out with buckles like these.

I've found them at sites ranging from the late 1700s to early 1900s. My guess would be late 1800's, early 1900s.

Thank you for the reply. I was thinking horse tack from the different videos I’ve seen in the past on YouTube. I will continue to do research.

Vpnavy, off topic but noticed your quote from George Washington. There is a house about 2 miles from my house that served as a headquarters for General Washington for a couple of weeks in 1777. The house which still stands was built in 1750, it is called the Moland House.

Cool buckle relic
By the size it could be horse tac of a standard belt buckle.
I would put it right in that 1900 range,
The best way to get a better idea is by surrounding relics you find.

and Welcome to TreasureNet
