Hi there, we found this tool/weapon possibly made from cedar on Vancouver Island. It was found in the dirt pile that was dug for a water drainage pond. With it were some deer antlers. About 6.5" high with two small holes. Lots of "carved knife marks". Any guesses? Thanks in advance.

It shows some hand craved marks but also there are some marks that almost look to uniform to be made by hand. It could a kids toy sword of some type or it could be a throwing stick made by NA not that long ago.

Is there any chance that it could be made out of ivory (Mammoth or Mastodon)? Or is it definitely made out of wood. The cross hatch lines look a lot like Schreger Lines found within their tusks. If the deer antlers were old, the N.A.'s used them here when they were hunting deer. They would have hide and antlers to get near deer.

Thanks for all the feedback. I looked up some "toy swords" and the shape does resemble some. The shape also resembles a N.A. war club handle.
I was just guessing at it being wooden given the brown color and weight, but now the old ivory material is intriguing (especially the grain texture..thanks for that pic!). The object is very hard and doesn't indent with a fingernail. I suppose the next step is to probably bring it to my University to see if the material can be identified. It was found on rural private property in a historically N.A. active area. Ill keep you all informed when I get more info! :)

Yes keep us posted. If it is Ivory then probably very old!!!!
