Please recommend a good metal detector

I am totally new to this, but would like to start treasure hunting. I don't know a thing about metal detectors but would like to buy one that works well and won't cost me a fortune. Is there anything around $100? Please enlighten me!

in that price range, and if it's your first detector... go for a Bounty Hunter. They actually find stuff too!...LOL. Plus if you like the hobby, you can keep it for a back up to a better machine or sell it for pretty much close to what you paid for it.

or should i just go for the garrett ace 250? seems to be a lot of talk about it and not terribly expensive.

Check out the fisher F2. Having used a Garrett 550, I can tell you that the Bell Tone features is fricking atrocious. My sister uses the F2 and has found some nice stuff.

Just warning you about the belltone feature on most garrett machines, sposed to sound off on a good target, actually sounds off on just about everything. Some people like the 250, but after using a machine with the bell tone, never again.
