Using google earth looking around near mines here in alabama I seem to notice a continuation of the land in and around the mine site, please help me determine what this is. Heres what is confusing me:
Notice the "dirt roads", they are wonderous and will branch off the main road for only 10-20 yards and stop, this happens so many times on most all the old mining districts around here.

Any ideas??? heres a pic. I will greatly appreciate any and all help. Thanks!

It may be from the logging.

what do you think the concentration of trees running through the middle of the property would be? underground spring?

They are turn around's for the trucks and to off load/ load cargo !
I used to see this all over areas like this. If they are bigger mines you will see trucks dozers and the sort parked in them.
Some would have had camper or office trailers parked in them .

Well, if the area has been logged and I assume it has than these would be "landings"!! This is where the skidder brought the logs down to be cut and trimmed and then loaded onto the logging trucks. There are "millions" of these in the country!!

One statement to go against logging would be at a few sites I have peronally seen, the terrain is wayyy to steep for any logging trucks to access, besides being steep, there are so many up and down hills that would make access for a logging truck near impossible...
