Yes, and you would fill the reservoir (box this lid fits on) with grease. Joint being greased would have been in that box. The grease cap was the port to the gear box.

Grease cups have a pipe thread that screws in to the bearing cap.(Google grease cup) I don't believe this is a grease cup.
