Ive posted this on another forum so some of you might have seen it before but its fun to look at anyway. I found it at a little farmhouse over the summer (house dates@1895) Found the screw on lid 20 ft. away. In the bottom is a pin where a compass needle sat. 4-5" right on the path that led to the house. It was a fair weather friend I bet.

Neat find, dandan. Attach a strap and put it on your wrist! ;)

That's a pretty unusual SLQ, too. What were the 2's put on it for?

Those really are cool finds, good job.

That is a pretty interesting find, ya don't see to many of those pop up out of the ground
nice job

Its a great find that you have there, Is it made in Germany? and can you post more pics of it with the lid? In the hollow part of it, there may have once had a cumpass inside of it. Depending on the over all condition of the piece and the lid, being dug and if the MFG is German. $200 to $300. Maybe ? Give us a MFG Name and more pics and maybe the price will go up !! ;D

Neat find, makes you wonder just what will come out of the next hole.

Someone mentioned that the 2's on the SLQ might be "Merchants Marks", kinda like painting the Qtrs. red for the jukebox. I've looked and looked for a makers mark on the sundial, nothing. Unfortunately the lid took a bit of a shot from something and is missing a small piece. :( I think that the Manuf. name might have been in the "sludge that was at one point the face of the compass underneath. I'll take a pic and post it when my daughter gives me back my camera. 2 sets of circles around the circ. of both the lid and the base, no other marks!?
