Such a beautiful day today....So I decided since I did not hunt much yesterday that I would spend the day today searching out some treasure. Well it all started BAD!!! I went to a site I have obtained permission at recently. It is a pair of fields that at one time housed a train station and a old fort..(french and Indian era). Well I was only there 2 minutes and the woman who rents the house walks across the field to me.....Now I was wondering what she could want....I do not know her very well.....BUT...As she gets closer I can tell she is eating something....It turned out it was spare ribs from the local Chinese joint...Now she is not by any means a pretty woman but lets say with the amount of rib juice spread across her 19 inch wide face....It just was enough to turn anyones tummy inside out. So after telling me she thinks I'm trespassing...And me telling her I think she needs to grab a napkin..(not in so many words)...I decided rather than argue with her I would just stop by the land owners home and grab written permission. So that ended my big plans of finding some old treasure. So after loading up we decided to head to another site I recently obtained permission to hunt. Now this place were heading has another set of issues all of its own. From the road it looks like an amazing old inn...(build 1750)...However once you get closer you notice something just not normal about it. A slow scan of the yard with your eyes yields somewhere in the area of 90 or so cats. Now I am not in the least bit over exaggerating If anything I am off by 10 or so....May just be 100. While I am a cat lover...This still alarms me. I mean seriously have you ever tried swinging your detector through 89 playful Kitty's....Every swipe you take they swipe back. Not to mention the fun ones who try to build a race track out of your back....They run right up your back and down the front....Well after the 4th kitty in line made it across the circuit I decided to throw a roadblock in the track...as it hit my shoulder I smacked it senseless........Well this seemed to stop the kittyanapolis 500....Now I only had to contend with the batters in the kitty batting cages....GRRRRR not to mention the kitty POO every 3 inches. The place smells worse than a cow barn. My friend Doug hit a nice signal just under a tree...As he put his knee down it happened to be right in the middle of a good sized kitty pie...(ROFLMAO) well I told him...Um...Doug.....I am sorry to inform you....You just got yourself into a SHI**Y situation...As he looks down he says HOLY SH*T....And I replied...CLOSE...But I was thinking kitty Sh*t....lol....To watch the look on his face was priceless. He refused to dig that hole after the "kitty pie " incident...SO we decided to hit the other side of the home...It did not seem to have nearly as many Kitty's on it. OH I forgot to mention a local fella has hit this home MANY times in the past. So after the kitty poo....We were about to call it quits at this site. I still had not had a signal worth digging in about 1 hour of swinging and the smell was really getting to me. Well just as i said to Doug...Hey lets bag it...I hit a decent signal...It turned out to be a nice flat button at about 6 inches down. Well that peeked my interest a little bit yet the poo smelled so bad we still decided to head towards the car.....Midway across the yard I got another signal....This signal was solid and locked right on 87 on my XLT...After pinpointing I found that it read 7.5 inches....Well hoping for a nice silver piece I hastily dropped down to my knees (after scanning for poo)...I cut the plug...It was still in the hole......OH BOY....well a quick sweep from the ol XLT and it read 87....At this point I was sure it would be a quarter...Well I guess I was not exactly ready for what popped out....A BEAUTIFUL large cent.....I only looked quick but i saw some detail and what appeared to be a 1805....I was so pumped I almost did not notice in my run to the vehicle to store my new found treasure...I stepped in about 20 kitty land mines.....GRRR THAT SMELL....well we hit the same area for 15 more minutes and only uncovered 1 more flat button and a OLD lock....So so far the only coin (no clad or anything) to come off the poopoo lawn was this penny!!! Not that i am complaining....Well here are the pix...Sorry for the long post....I just had to share the poopoo story. Sorry for the bad pix...My wife has the good camera and is not home.

PS....If anyone who reads this buys a T-Shirt from me I will send you a kitty or a kitty land mine with it....Your choice free of charge!!!

Too funny....I love this old coin....It is by far the nicest large cent ive ever uncovered. I am so glad that other Metal detectorist left it for me!!!

Anyone have any thoughts on the grade of this coin....I know it is still dirty but I do not want to clean it.....It looks to be in better than GOOD condition. Maybe worth a lil jing?

You gotta let me in on the secret spots man. I haven't got many.

I would take a soft toothbrush too it under rinse water! Then look for a grading,it could be worth some jack!

It looks like the patina is flaking off in some places. Scrub it at all with more then a q-tip and it will come off takeing detail with it. It may end up looking like the one I have in best finds. It does not look rare but is a great find for your collection. HH,

Great find!
The "poo" part of your story reminds me of my hunt at a tear-down across the street yesterday. . . on the coil, my shovel and my hand when I picked up the shovel. . . yuck!!! All I found was a 1950 wheat, 5 keys and a faucet >:(
You did better than I. . .

That is just horrible....I am sorry for you....I almost hurled at the smell of this house today. The side of the yard where i found the LP was not bad though...I guess the cats do not like that side....THANK GOD.....but all in all it was an interesting day. ;D

Great story and find! I wouldn't have been so willing to let a renter run me off if I knew there was OWNER permission, but in your case it worked out. Get back there and see what you find!

I did find 2 mercs in one hole and a silver rosey in another at the first site....I just did not take pix because of the LC i found...It is a great day when your silver coins take second stage...lol

Sometimes you just have to go through a lot of crap to get the good stuff! LOL
Nice find!

I bet my buddy will always remember when he is about to drop to his knees to look down. I am sure he will not want a repeat of this sh*tty situation. ;) ;D

I looked at some on Ebay that were graded in Good condition...This one seems in much nicer shape than those...It actually looks nicer than the graded fine ones....I know it is dug so it isnt worth squat though...I am just happy to have had the opportunity to find it. I am tossing the idea around of turning it in to the local police to see if someone who lost it claims it....(hehe sorry Charles...just kidding). Thanks for your input!
