I have several 1940 wheat cents. One has a funny looking "0" in the date. My camera wouldn't do a clear close up but I found another photo on a message board of another just like it. Mine is identical to this photo - the "0" has a squared off side with a bit of a hump at the lower edge. My other 1940'2 all have perfect zeros. Is this an error?

Sometimes a coin sorter or counter will cause the coin to catch and will cause things like what your photo shows. sometimes it will even shear off part of a number or letter.

The older counters were famous for it.
