ok so i went roll hunting today, i picked up 20 rolls,
didn't find much, one silver 1961,

and a possible 1969 large date, in the book it says there are less then 20 minted. the coin i found is in bad shape, and hard to read the date, but it resembels more a large date then the small one, i will post the pics tomorrow, i gotta figure out how to use the suped macro on my camera.

i will need some expert advice on the id.

i just don't think its possible to find that coin in circulation, so i am very sceptical :-\

(i am canadian) so the coins i search for are canadian :)

Well I know errors are found in circulation all the time. You may just have it. I would post the pic and see what others think and if there is enough interest then take it to someone for cirtification. Even in bad shape if it turns out to be 1 of 21 it should still be worth something:-)

Here's a quick way to check -

If the first 9 is similar to the 9 in 1968 than you've hit the jackpot. If it resembles the 9 in 1970 & beyond than you're ten cents richer. ;D

ok i got the pics, hope they turn out ok

this is what my book says (a charlton standard catalogue, Canadian Coins, W.K. Cross 59th edition2005)

the other two pics are of the 1969 dime, the best i could do with the camera

Despite the condition of the coin making it hard to determine, it does appear to be a large date. I'd be interested in what others think; and/or do you have a local coin dealer you trust.

Looks like the small date to me. So close...

The 6 looks large to me and the 9 looks like neither. The coin looks so messed up though that it is probably impossible to really tell. Chances are it is the small though as the chances of it being large are minute.

I'm basing my answer (large date) on the fact that the "tail" of the nine is far from the "circle" of the nine; like the photo of the large date.
Same for the six. Again the "tail" (though this time on top) is far from the "circle" ; again like the photo of the large date.

But than again, that's why coin "experts" are around; if you can find one you trust. 8)

it looks like the six is a large date, but the 9 looks like a large, but could be debatable, so i don't know eighter.

the weird part about this coin is that the other side looks fine, and this side looks like it was hit with acid.

i live in toronto, so there are probably a few coin shops around. i'll try dropping by when the weather clears up.

Actually looks more like 1989 to me. Maybe its just my eyes. I'd have to see a 1989 date on a Canadian dime to compare, but can't do that until I get home.

gman i think you are right, it does look like a 89

Dude. The thread is a decade old, and the poster has not logged on in 8 years.

Looking really hard, I also see an 89. But if it is a six, it sure looks like the large .... I'm hoping for you!

Here's how to tell if it's an 89 or 69 - Show us the full coin, both sides - Being a Canadian roll hunter I should be of a little assistance - The 9 does look small to me though - Seem MANY 1969 looking for that elusive 1 Largie - You could have struck gold but I'm very questionable on this little guy.

Do you have a MACRO setting on your camera? pictures you sent look to be through a loop and you should get a good picture if you do a Macro picture properly
