Found in Northern Virginia. To me it looks like a faction of an arrow head. I can see it hopefully some one else can to. The property had a native village on it. The owners had an archeologist come out who determined that it was a definite village sight. They said he found large amounts of evidence of chipping. He dated the few arrowheads that the owners found to be 9,000 or 5,000 years old!!!! I forget exactly. But here it is let me know what you think.

I can see the arrow head if you take the first picture, turn it so that the widest part ( facing the bottom ) is facing left, you can kind of imagine it.

It's a piece of an arrowhead!! You know what they say!! Where there is a piece of an arrowhead, a whole one is near. I'm not really sure if that's a saying..... It is the truth, though!

Yes I'm with NC. you have a broke piece. Keep at it and it will pay off.

AWWW NO WAY!!! That's cool. I was pretty sure it was and I definitely will probably in the spring when the owner tills the field and then I'll wait for the first rain.

wooo hooo that's my first one to

Congratulations you are in the right spot glad you found your piece it's always nice even when it's only a section ;))))

You are for sure looking in the right spot:thumbsup:

Congrats my friend! Makes me happy to have had the pleasure of breaking this good news to you. Glad the back up was there as well!!

For future reference how can you tell it was worked on? By the way the stone looks? Its hard to explain, I hardly know what chipping or flaking looks like but I can tell the difference between this rock from another. That's about all you need to look at right? Other than the obvious triangular shape.

Its always good to familiarize yourself with the types of artifacts and the kinds of rocks they were made of in your area...

mainejman is right, and if you live in northern Virginia, the guide for Maryland projectile points will be good for your area as well:

Thanks. I guess I can mark it as solved to if no one has denied it yet.

Keep at it rv.After you get familiar with what a worked piece looks like you will be able to go to a rocky shoreline and pick that shape out of a million rocks.Your eyes are automatically drawn to the different colors. But artifacts come in so many sizes shapes and colors.Heres where experience comes into play. Then you have your hardstone tools.Whole different ball game.Theres plenty of information on line.Nobody has to go into this hobby uninformed. The main thing here is to have fun and be safe....Good luck!!!

If your eye caught that one, there will be no questions when you fine a whole one. "good eye"

awesome thanks everyone

Once you learn what worked is it is game on. Lets see what you can find next.

Good job- and such a small piece! There's no question as to whether it is or isn't a fraction of a piece. Once you train your eye on that flaking/knapping- like the edge of a serrated knife blade- you'll do fine. Keep us up-to-date w/ what you find next!
