Possible civil war bedroll buckle?

This item wasn't found today, but I actually re-found it today while looking up a couple different horse tack buckles I had laying around, just seeing if I could date them to better understand the age of some of the sites that we didn't find coins with dates on them.

I found this buckle back in the summer and put it in my random finds box. Not sure if it is actually a bedroll buckle, but it looks very similar, what you guys opinion.

It is a buckle shield part of horse tack ...patented after the civil war.

Ok, that makes sense. I just cleaned it up and there is a number stamped into the back. It is either 1875 or 1879. Thanks fella.

Would it still be military in origin, or civilian? Never seen a year stamped on any of my other horse tack.

I found one very similar that I was told was a horse buckle cover. (Early to mid 1800’s)
I made a recent post in the buckle section trying to find more information. Good luck finding information on your find.
