Battle Rattle, I know not dug, got this awhile back from a Civil War antiques dealer. This is not like a definite item such as a Springfield with armorer marks and there are no markings on the rattle, so bought with a seller and buyer understanding of that.
The Confederacy had more hand made ones. White oak, worn, very loose. Used in the field, naval, anywhere an alarm was needed. Its one of those items somewhere between possible and likely for CW I would think. 13" tall
