Six weeks ago I was in a local creek mining for gold. I was digging a gravel bar and classifying material to run in a sluice A few feet in front of where I was digging I seen this object in the water it looked like a piece of plastic with small little dimples on it. I kept on looking at it and thought I better pick it up before my buddy does because he always finds the best items in the creek. What I thought was plastic wasn't it was heavy five sided the same type of pattern all the way around it but not on the top or the bottom. from the little bit of research I did on the Internet I believe this is petrified dinosaur skin but it looks like it's a segment of some thing like a segment of a finger or a tail. Does anybody have a clue as to what this is.

I suppose anything is possible I only thought it was dinosaur skin because I seen very similar photos on the Internet. I Gold prospecting the Midwest mainly Iowa, I Highbank and dredge and pan and classifi material to run in a river Sluice. In the last 10 years I've seen hundreds of thousands of different rocks never to seen one like this.
