Please have patience with me - this is my first post on any type of forum anywhere ! My wife found this metal detecting in a field near a creek. I "enhanced" the ship wheel design and the "R" with chalk and a crayon so they would show up in the pics. There is a hole in the bottom. All help would be appreciated ! Thank you.

Not sure what it is but you did a good job giving us pics of all angles. It seems to be some type of handle IMO.

While I dont know what it is for sure, Im willing to say not a hand grenade. Maybe R for reverse? Or was it Racing? Dont remeber. ;)

If you look down the hole can you see any threading?

Very cool find though. Anxious to find out the iD.

Oh, and welcome to the forum! Youre gonna like it here.

Thank you very much, we love this site ! I can't see any threads inside the hole, but it's pretty corroded.

I don't know what it is either but if it was a grenade, i would call it a boomerang grenade. Were the "R' Stands for "Return to sender"

So I looked pulled up grenades in my AEODPS ( automated explosive ordnance disposal publication set) and I can confirm that this is NOT a grenade but a sic find, nice work

Maybe I make myself fun sponge of sorts but anyway:

People do not carry home unkown stuff that could be unexploded ordinance of any sorts. The stuff is not harmless when it gets rusty. In fact it gets more dangerous over time.

People die or loose limps from this, its not a find or a souvenir.

You dont touch a rattlesnake, even if its not moving at the moment or do you?
