I found this on the surface at an old park today. They are turning up the dirt to build something on top of a hill and I've been sifting through. Today I found this piece of iron and instantly thought it was a heel plate. All I can say for sure is it is iron, it is magnetic. It fits the heel of my boot(other than being slightly bent) and it's pretty dang solid for a thin piece of iron. This area has been a gathering place since the 1700s and is still a community gathering place today. The hill where I found this item today was once just a stones throw away from a large 1863 confederate civil war winter camp. Not saying this is CW... most of those seem to be brass. Just wondering if this could be older? Newer shoe "tap"? I really dont know. I've found everything from native American items, colonial, civil war up to modern in this one area. It's a real crap shoot. I can say almost for sure this thing wasnt made in the last 50 years... unless I'm way off base with my guess at what it is. Any info is appreciated as always! I'm working on a video from this site... I'll be sure to post here when I get it all put together! Thanks in advance everybody!
